Johnson defeats Figueroa in rematch
Tammie Johnson WINS in Chicago
We hoped this would happen, and suppsoe secretly figured it would:
CHICAGO: Tammie Johnson returned to Chicago to avenge her draw to Rita Figueroa from last March. In an 8 round majority decision Johnson outboxed the previously unbeaten Figueroa (10-1-1). Judges scored the bout 76-76, 78-74, 78-74. This was Figueroa's first loss while Johnson improved to 4-2-2.
Rita weighed in at the maximum 136 while Tammie weighed 133 1/2.
As the fight began, Tammie came out showing all the boxing skills she learned over the last few months. Tammie dominated most rounds. Even the Chicago judges could not deny Tammie the win this time. Though Tammie had not gone 8 rounds before, she fought like a champ.
When the first judge's score was read as 76-76 those ringside thought, "Here we go again." The announcer read the scores of the remaining two judges scoring the bout. Each saw it 78-74. The winner, "from the blue corner....Tammie 'Tasmanian Devil' Johnson."

Johnson back to Chicago to rematch Rita Figueroa
Tammie Johnson went to Chicago in March to face Rita Figueroa and her perfect 10-0 record. After six hard rounds the three judges saw three different fights. One had Johnson winning 56-58, one went to Figueroa 59-55 and the third called it a draw.
There was immediate talk of a rematch in the Northwest. That never materialized, so back to Chicago goes Johnson.
As part of Windy City Fight Night 3 – Friday June 26 at UIC Pavilion – Johnson (3-2-2) and Figueroa (10-0-1) will try to finish what was started three months ago. The fight will be eight rounds at a weight of 136 pounds.
